Our famous “Fall Back Into Literacy Family Night” is back! In anticipation of the clocks changing, we will be welcoming families into the school for a fun night of literacy games, reading, and prizes on Thursday November 2 from 5:00pm-6:30pm. Watch your child’s backpack for an invitation reminder to hang on your fridge. We hope you will join us!

End of Day Routines

Please be patient with staff and students at the end of the school day. The cold weather has created some end of day challenges as students develop independence with the addition of snow pants, boots, mittens etc into their routine. The younger the student, the longer this takes and part of building independence means that we don't do it FOR them, but we assist them in doing it themselves. Teachers are starting to get students prepared for pick up a few minutes earlier than normal but it will take time for students to become more efficient with this process. Please take this into consideration when you are booking appointments and other commitments at the end of the school day so that you can give yourself and your child extra time.

IPPs

If your child brought home an IPP (Individualized Program Plan) please be sure to read it and connect with your child’s teacher to discuss it. We also need you to sign the back page and return it to the school to acknowledge that you have read and reviewed the document. Please do this as soon as possible. Thank you for your attention to this.

Halloween at Harkness

Students and staff are invited (but not required) to dress up in culturally and age appropriates costumes on Halloween. All costumes need to be costumes that students can work and play in for the day. Please DO NOT send any costume props such as wands or weapons. Face paint is ok but please leave all face masks at home. We cannot be responsible for any lost, forgotten or broken costume pieces. Please DO NOT send Halloween treats to school for your child to share with their class. We do not hand out any outside food or treats. When Halloween is over, please keep the candy at home. One SMALL treat in their lunch kit per day is ok but a belly full of sugar is not good for learning. Thanks for your help with this everyone!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Watch your emails for information on how and when to book a conference with your child’s teacher. We would like 100% attendance this round so that we can celebrate all of the amazing progress your child is making. Conferences are 15 minutes each and take place on November 23 from 4:30-7:30pm and November 24 from 8:30am-1:00pm. More information on when and how to book your conference to come.
