Conferences

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who booked and attended teacher conferences over the past two days. These conversations are important to your child’s success at school. If you did not book an appointment or your plans changed and you were not able to attend, please reach out to your child’s teacher with some dates to hold a phone conversation in the coming weeks.

Upcoming Fun at DHS

School council is hosting a Family Movie Night (Super Mario) on Thursday December 7. The doors open at 5:45 and the movie starts at 6:00pm. Ticket information will be sent home in your child’s backpack. The council is also hosting a Papa John’s Fun Lunch on December 13. Information and order forms will be coming home in your child’s backpack.

Casino!

We are excited to announce that we have the dates for our next Casino. Please mark your calendars for April 8th and 9th so that you can volunteer for one (or two) of the 50 spots that will need to be filled. Our last Casino raised over $70,000 for the school which is being spent on large and small technology, library books, large area rugs for learning spaces, playground lines for games outside, and other exciting resources for students.

Little Green Thumbs Gardens

The equipment for the Little Green Thumbs classroom gardens are starting to arrive. We can’t wait to start planting and growing food all around the building. Watch our DHS Twitter (X) account for photos as the gardens begin to grow!

Internet and Social Media Safety

We are looking forward to welcoming one of our CPS School Resource Officers into our grade 4, 5, and 6 classrooms to do a presentation on Internet and Social Media safety. This presentation will take place on December 4 during regular class time.

School Cell Phone Use Policy

  • If a student needs to access their cell phone, they need to do so in the office, not in their classrooms, hallways, or outdoor play areas.
  • School bathrooms and school meetings are “no phone zones.” This is for the safety and privacy of all individuals in our building.
  • Photography, audio, and video of any kind is not permitted by students on school property unless under the direct supervision of a staff member. This is for the safety of all individuals in the building.
  • Photography, audio, and video is not permitted by parents while on school property unless the photos, audios and videos are of their own child only. This includes photography, audio and video taken during school performances and during field trips. This is for the safety of all individuals in the school community.
  • Schools are not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen personal electronic devices.

The use of personal devices at Douglas Harkness School is a privilege. Failure to adhere to established guidelines will result in the following corrective measures.

  • First offense – student will be expected to give the device to the office until the end of the day. It will stay in the office safe until it is picked up by the student at the end of the day.
  • Subsequent offenses - student will be expected to give the device to the office until the end of the day. It will stay in the office safe and will remain there until a parent/guardian comes in to pick it up.
