 Principal’s Message

“Let us be grateful for the people who make us happy. They are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”

~ Marcel Proust

What are you thankful for?

This weekend, many families will celebrate Thanksgiving. It is a time to spend with family and friends and think about the people and things that make us happy.

At Douglas Harkness School, have been talking about students circles around them. These circles often contain the many people that students are most grateful for including family, friends and classmates. Having people who care about us is important. Our family, friends, and school community help us feel safe and that we belong. They celebrate happy moments with us and support us when things are hard. Even small moments together can bring us joy.

Fall is one of my favourite times of the year. I love the changing colours, cooler weather, and spending time with family and friends. It reminds me to be thankful for the special people in my life.

As we move through October, we encourage you to talk with your child about being thankful. You might ask, “Who are you thankful for?” or “What made you happy this week?”

Whether your family celebrates Thanksgiving or not, we hope you enjoy time with the people who are important to you. Remember, the people in our lives make us stronger, and we make them stronger too!

Warm Regards,

Lisa

Emergency Drills|

Each year, schools are required to conduct six fire drills and two lockdown drills to ensure that staff and students are aware and able to enact our emergency protocols. This year, we have already completed one fire drill. The students did an excellent job of exiting the building in a quick and quiet manner.

Picture Day|

Picture Day is coming! School Picture Day will take place on October 26. Come dressed to impress!

School Council|

Douglas Harkness is thankful to be supported by an AMAZING School Council. We want to thank them for a successful Subway Fun Lunch this week.

Please join us for our next school council/fundraising society meeting on Thursday, October 22 at 6:30pm.
