Thank you to the anonymous donors who donated door prizes.  There were prizes including Lego, school supplies, books, jigsaw puzzles, board games and passes.  Congratulations to the students who won prizes.

Douglas Harkness Staff Parking Lot

Please do not park or wait for your child in the staff parking lot.

The parking lot is only for Douglas Harkness Staff.  There is no visitor or parent parking available in the staff parking lot.

Please remind students to not cross between cars on the street and not walk through the staff parking lot.

Thank you for your understanding.

Bus Stop Infront of School – Do not park infront of school

We have a school bus that arrives at the beginning and at the end our school day.

Please do not park in front of the school to allow the bus to safely arrive and leave.

Soon, there will be bus parking signs at the front of the school saying No Parking.  Until then, we would appreciate your cooperation and respect for our school bus loading zone.

No Dogs on Douglas Harkness Field and Playground

A reminder there are no dogs permitted on the field of schools.  The Calgary Bylaw signs are posted around the school.

Heritage Park Field Trips

As mentioned before, Douglas Harkness School received a $5000 grant for field trips.  Within he next couple of weeks, our Grades 2, 4, 5 and 6 classes will be going to Heritage Park for the day to learn about Indigenous ways of knowing, Bison, and exploring our past.  The Grade 3 students have already attended and brought back excitement, knowledge and more questions.

Please ask your child for the consent forms for you to sign.

There is no cost for this field trip as an anonymous donor has covered the cost.  We are grateful and appreciative of the anonymous donor through Education Matters.

Student Demographic Changes

A reminder to update a student’s Demographic Verification Form to ensure your child’s information (parent phone number / email, medical, address, guardianship) is up to date in our system.

Complete Two Forms:  Demographic Verification Form and Annual Authorization Form

School Council and Parent Society

The next School Council and Parent Council meeting is on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 6pm-7pm.

This is an opportunity for parents / legal guardians to make a meaningful difference for students by participating on the school council.

Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

Sincerely

Ms. Amardeep Chana, Principal
