Principal’s Message|
"May is a reminder that every lesson, every moment, and every smile has brought your students closer to who they’re becoming. The finish line is in sight—finish strong, with heart."
– Unknown
As we move through May, it’s hard to believe how quickly this school year has flown by. Each day has been filled with growth, challenges, joy, and discovery. Your children have worked hard, and so have you cheering them on, supporting their efforts, and celebrating their wins.
Together, we have built something truly meaningful. Let us encourage our students to give their best in these final weeks, knowing that their journey is as important as the destination. The magic of learning is often in the small, everyday moments and those moments have been nothing short of extraordinary.
As we look ahead to the last two months of school, what things will you put in place to help you ‘become’? Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Let us finish this year strong, together and with heart.
Warm regards,
Lisa and Jenn
Happenings|
Our grade two and four students enjoyed field trips to the Calgary Zoo and Ralph Klein Park.
Away for the Day Device Policy|
Communication has been shared with families regarding the Alberta Government Ministerial Order regarding personal mobile devices. In this order, CBE students are not permitted to use personal mobile devices during instructional time. Personal Mobile devices refer to the ability for a device to connect with a network via WI-FI or through the use of a cellular data plan. This would include cell phones, tablets, smart watches and Bluetooth devices such as speakers etc. Unfortunately, even if these devices are in “school-mode”, they cannot be used or worn.
As we have gotten closer to the end of the year, we have seen an increase in students having these types of devices. Douglas Harkness School continues to have ‘away-for-the-day’ guidelines. Students are not permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day. Mobile devices must be kept in their backpacks for the entirety of the school day and turned off. If you need to get a message to your child during the day, please call the office and one of our staff members will be sure to inform your child.
Stampeders Grade Walk|
The Calgary Stampeders are excited to collaborate with the Calgary Board of Education to celebrate the Graduating Class of 2026 with a unique opportunity at McMahon Stadium.
On Saturday, June 20 at 5:00 PM, the Calgary Stampeders are hosting a Grad Walk, where graduating high school students will have the chance to walk the field in front of more than 30,000 fans prior to kickoff.
As part of the experience:
- Graduates receive a complimentary game ticket
- Students can invite family and friends to celebrate with them
- Participants will walk the field in a pregame recognition moment
Spots are limited, so we encourage students to secure their tickets early to reserve their place on the field.
