Principal’s Message|

Each morning it is brighter than the day before. It is a reminder that, as the days grow longer, our students are also embracing the changing season. The extra light leads to more outdoor play. It's been wonderful to see them outside, enjoying the fresh air, running around, and soaking in the promise of spring that the extra light brings.

Many of our classes have been taking part in community walks or spending time outdoors. We have enjoyed being back outside for recesses and playing field games. At this time of year, the school yard can be very wet and muddy. We ask students to stay out of very wet areas. This helps them stay warm and dry during the day.

Please pack an extra set of clothes in your child’s backpack (pants, socks, and shirt). Even when students are careful, clothes can sometimes get wet. A spare set of clothes is very helpful.

We hope you and your family enjoy the sunshine and outdoor time in the coming weeks.

Warm Regards,

Lisa

Happenings|

After a fun month of activities such as paper airplane contests, trivia, scarf “skating” and the ring toss, the DHS Olympics have come to a close. We enjoyed our closing ceremony as a school community today.

Assistant Principal Update|

Douglas Harkness School would like to send our sincere appreciation and thanks to Mrs. Lori Taylor for her dedication, hard work and support during her time as Acting Assistant Principal.

We would like to welcome our new Acting Assistant Principal, Ms. Jennifer MacDonald. Ms. MacDonald will be beginning at Douglas Harkness on Monday, March 2. Please see Ms. Macdonald’s introduction below.

Dear Douglas Harkness School Families,

My name is Jennifer MacDonald, and I’m pleased to be joining Douglas Harkness School as the acting Assistant Principal. I’m looking forward to meeting your children and getting to know the school community.

I bring experience teaching and leading in both elementary and middle school, and I’m excited to support students in their learning and growth here at Douglas Harkness.

Thank you for welcoming me into the school. I look forward to working together in the months ahead.

Sincerely,

Jennifer MacDonald

Alien Inline Residency|

Thanks to the generous support of our School Council/Fundraising Society, our students will be participating in an inline skating residency from March 2-13. This is an opportunity for students to learn how to inline skate with experienced leaders.

Your child will be bringing home an acknowledgement of risk form. We ask that families complete the form and return it to the school.

Students will be provided with inline skates as well as knee, wrist and elbow protection. Alien In-Line provides certified helmets, but for best hygiene and comfort we suggest that each participant bring in their own certified helmet.

We look forward to this exciting opportunity.

Alberta Education and Childcare Assurance Survey|

The Alberta Education and Childcare Assurance Survey closes March 6. This survey is an opportunity for grade 4 parents to share their perspectives on educational items with Alberta Education. We are encouraging all grade 4 parents to please complete the survey.
