It is hard to believe that we are heading into our last week of the school year already but yet here we are! Hang onto your hats because we have A LOT going on this week!
MONDAY is our Mini-Legends Sports Day. This is a full day event being held OUTSIDE. Students will need to come prepared wearing sunscreen and a hat and they should bring a water bottle that they can refill at our water fountains. This event requires signed permission from a legal guardian. If you have not signed and returned the permission form that was sent home over two weeks ago, you need to return it tomorrow morning or your child will need to stay inside and will not be able to participate. Thank you to everyone who has returned their forms. Out of 318 students we are only missing about 15 permissions!
TUESDAY afternoon is a day to celebrate our grade 6 students who will be heading off to junior high in the fall. If you are a parent/guardian of a grade 6 student, you are invited to attend the celebration assembly that starts at 2:00pm in the school gym.
WEDNESDAY afternoon will see our grade 6 students enjoying a movie, pizza and popcorn party in their classroom as they come together for one last party before Jr. High. This is a grade 6 student only event. Families do not attend.
WEDNESDAY is also the day that you can view your child’s report card online through your MyCBE account. The Calgary Board of Education no longer prints copies of report cards for families. Please remember to access your child’s report card online later this week!
THURSDAY is our last day of school and it is a HALF DAY of classes so we end at 11:45am. Please make arrangements to pick up your child(ren) at their respective doors at 11:45am on Thursday.
HAPPY RETIREMENT MS. DRON! Many of our students have had the privilege of learning from Ms. Dron over the years and although we are sad to see her leaving we are so grateful for her 34 years of service to students and families. We hope that Ms. Dron takes time to breathe deep and relish in activities that bring her joy as she enters her well deserved and well earned retirement years. We love you Ms. Dron!!!
….AND FINALLY THANK YOU! As I move into my new role in the fall as Principal of Cranston School, I will take with me all of the lessons, laughter and love that I have gained from my time with you at Douglas Harkness. When we met three and a half years ago the world was just coming out of a pandemic and life was full of uncertainty. You welcomed me, supported me, and challenged me to know better, do better, and be better every single day. For that I am so grateful. Douglas Harkness has heart because of each and every one of you and I am a better human for having had you in my life. To the families…thank you for sharing your greatest blessing(s) with me. Your children are strong, resilient, compassionate and kind. To the staff…thank you for joining me on this journey and for your unwavering commitment to the success of each and every child you serve. And to the students….you are a gift. You are everything this world needs and more! Your energy, laughter, high fives, hugs, and cherished moments over card games and stories shared in my office, have left a mark on my heart that I am deeply grateful for.
With gratitude and warmest regards,
Proud Principal of Douglas Harkness School,
Ms. George
