Solar Eclipse Monday

There will be a partial eclipse on Monday April 8. We have been advised by the Calgary Board of Education that students will not be going outside for recess or lunch break between the hours of 11:50am and 1:50pm on that day. We will also keep students away from windows during this period of time.

Students who walk home for lunch are invited to STAY FOR LUNCH on Monday. If you would like your child to stay for lunch, please send them with food to eat and make sure that they are aware that they are staying. 

If you would still like your child to walk home for lunch, please talk to them about NOT looking at the sun during their walk home and back to school.

Late Students

 Please make sure that your child arrives at school before the school bell rings. Students who are regularly late develop bad habits that will negatively impact them into adulthood. They also miss valuable learning and disrupt the learning of other students when they arrive late. Thank you for your attention to this.

Casino

We have filled all of the volunteer positions for Monday and Tuesday’s school casino. However, to feel fully secure, we still need “back-up” volunteers as we currently have no back-ups. If you are able to be a back-up volunteer, please contact harknesscouncil@gmail.com right away so that we know that we can call you last minute if needed. If any of the shifts are not filled, we lose the full casino and the tens of thousands of dollars that it generates for our kids. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up and to our Parent Society volunteers who have worked hard to get our casino going for us. 

Grade 6 To Clarence Sansom

Grade 6 students will be walking over to Clarence Sansom for a Junior High tour on the morning of Tuesday April 9. They will be leaving Douglas Harkness around 10:25 and they will return to the school in time for lunch break. We ask that parents/guardians do not schedule any medical/dental appointments for Tuesday April 9 as we do not want any students to miss this exciting opportunity. Please note that parents/guardians are invited to attend a special open house at Clarence Sansom on Thursday April 11 from 6:00pm-7:30pm. 

School Council Meeting 

We will be having another hybrid school council meeting on Thursday April 11 at 6:00pm with special guest speakers from the Calgary McMann Foundation. After School Supervision 

We encourage all students to go home at the bell and only come back to the school if they have parent permission. A reminder to families that there is NO supervision on the field, basketball courts, or playground after school hours.
