Principal’s Message|

“The child within us is what keeps us curious, fearless, and full of wonder. Never let them fade away.”

Children have a wonderful way of looking at the world. They notice small things, ask many questions, and are excited to learn new ideas. A tiny insect in the grass, clouds moving in the sky, or a plant beginning to grow can all create a sense of wonder. Wonder helps children stay open, curious, and excited about learning.

As I walk through the hallways of Douglas Harkness school, we often see this sense of wonder in our students. Our kindergarten students are full of excitement as they hunt for eggs in their classrooms, carefully searching and wondering where they might be hidden. Grade one students are exploring different objects and materials, touching, testing, and making observations about what they notice. And our grades two, three, and four students are asking questions about the little sprouts they are growing in their classrooms.

Every day, we work to help our students keep this sense of wonder alive. We encourage them to ask questions, explore the world around them, and stay curious.

This is also a wonderful reminder for all of us. We can slow down, spend time in nature, try a new path, and take time to notice the world around us. How can you and your family make time to be curious and ask questions together? May we all continue to hold on to our sense of wonder.

Warm regards,

Lisa and Jenn

Registration for the 2026-2027 school year|

If your child is a current student at Douglas Harkness School, you do NOT need to re-register for next year. They automatically are registered for the next school year at our school.

Grade 6 students will go to Clarence Sansom School for Grade 7. You do not need to register for Clarence Sansom, as they will automatically be rolled over to their designated school.

Students moving out of Pineridge and the Douglas Harkness catchment area, should register at their new community school. Next week, we will be sending out a paper survey to families to help with our planning for next year.

Indigenous Family Resource Guide|

We want to share the CBE Family Resource Guide with families to access supports and services that are available. Families can also access 211 Alberta, a 24/7 helpline for an up-to-date online database of support and services.

School Council/Parent Society Notes|

Our next fun lunch is Tuesday, April 14. Please watch for the flyers that have been sent home with your child.
