Casino Thank You

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered to make last week's casino a success. With your support we were able to fill all of the volunteer jobs and the school will be included in the profits for this quarter. With our previous casino we purchased 5 new SMART Boards for classrooms, new volleyball/badminton poles and nets, new library and music room carpets, new document cameras for every class, new books for the Library, outdoor compound game paint, and are waiting on a brand new sound system and projector for the gym! We can't wait to make our wish list for what we will buy with the new casino funds! Thank you!!

Music

Mr. Sylvester has taken a one month parental leave to be home with his baby. We are so fortunate to have Ms. Crisfield join us in music until he returns in the middle of May. Ms. Crisfield was the music teacher at Monteray Park School for many years and is excited to be here with us at Douglas Harkness for a little while.

Kindergarten Registration Happening Now

It is that time of year! Please reach out to friends and neighbours in the community who have children ready for Kindergarten. They need to be turning 5 before January 1st, 2025 in order to register for a September 2024 start. If you have a child at home who is ready to start Kindergarten in September, please log into the CBE website and register them quick so that we can include you in our “Welcome To Kindergarten” information night happening soon! A reminder that if your family lives within the Pineridge School boundaries, your kindergarten child needs to register at Pineridge School. If you are unsure, please contact Ms. Goulder in the office.

Bathroom Vandalism

We have been having many instances of vandalism in our school bathrooms. Most of the damage involves students using paper towels to intentionally plug the toilets, sinks and urinals. This past week, the vandalism resulted in three floods that filled the bathroom and spilled into the hallway resulting in the closure of one of the bathrooms while it was being fixed.  In spite of classroom conversations and announcements over the intercom, the vandalism continues to occur. As a result, we will not be refilling the paper towel dispensers for the time being. Students will be asked to air dry their hands while we continue to work to determine who is doing the damage and continue whole class conversations with students about taking care of our school.

Ride To School Day on Monday

Join us on April 22, 2024, as we stride towards a greener, healthier planet with our Earth Day Walk & Wheel event! Embrace the spirit of Earth Day by choosing active travel options like walking, cycling, or scooting to school with your child on that day. We will be turning the gym into a storage space for bikes, scooters, roller blades etc on Monday. The gym will be secured so no one will be allowed in there during the day. Students who go home for lunch can access their wheels and return them to the gym after they get back. If your child rides a bike, scooter, roller blades etc to school THEY MUST WEAR A HELMET.

After-School Supervision

We encourage all students to go home at the bell and only come back to the school if they have parent permission. A reminder to families that there is NO supervision on the field, basketball courts, or playground after school.
