Appropriate Clothing
It is expected that good judgment will be exercised in the selection of clothing worn to school by students. Clothing with inappropriate logos is not to be worn to school. Suitable footwear, which will allow students to learn and play in comfort without risk to health and safety, is also expected.
Hats help us to express their individuality, feel safe and secure away from home, cheer on our favorite sports team, and they protect us from the every changing weather. We allow hats to be worn inside and outside the school provided they do not disrupt the learning environment or pose a safety risk to the activity that the child is participating in.
If you are having difficulty providing appropriate outdoor clothing or footwear to your child, please contact the office. We have a Community Closet of donated items that can be accessed if required.
Indoor Runners
In order to assist in keeping our school clean, all students are expected to remove their wet and dirty outdoor footwear. All students are required to have a pair of running shoes for gym activities. We suggest that their runners serve as indoor shoes. No wheeled shoes are allowed in the school at any time due to serious safety concerns. Please clearly label all footwear to minimize loss. For their safety, students are expected to wear indoor footwear at all times. Fire drills are held on a regular basis. Many drills are scheduled without warning and if students are not wearing footwear, they will vacate the building without shoes.
Dressing for the Weather
All students are expected to remain outside, morning and afternoon, until the entry bell. We ask your co-operation in making sure that your child comes suitably dressed for the weather. Please keep in mind that it is often quite cool, particularly in the mornings. We find that many children do not dress warmly enough for the cool temperatures. Dressing your child in layers of clothing will allow them to adapt their comfort to the existing weather conditions.
In wet weather, children should have umbrellas or rain wear. If the temperature or wind chill is below -20°C or it is raining very hard, students will stay indoors for their safety and well being regardless of the time of day. On those days, staff will open the doors to let students come in early and sit in the hallway outside their classrooms.
